Sounds like you are disagreeing with the automatic hyphenation being done.

There are are couple of options.

One is brute force, turn off hyphenation:

Turning Off Automatic Hyphenation for Parts of a Document

Turning Off Paragraph Hyphenation

Another is to adjust the hyphenation zone, the area where hyphens are applied to make it suit your needs

To turn on hyphenation in Word 2007 to hyphenate your document , simply:

1) Go to the "Page Layout" tab on the Ribbon

2) Look for the "Page Setup" group

3) Click on "Hyphenation"

4) Select "Automatic"
Now that your document is hyphenated, lets look at the settings you can change to control exactly how the hyphenation works!

5) Click on "Hyphenation" again

6) Click on "Hyphenation Options…"

In the box that appears, there are two key settings you can play with.  The first is the "Hyphenation zone", and the second is "Limit consecutive hyphens to".  Change these settings to adjust the hyphenation to meet your needs!

If the problem is not automatic hyphenation but just random wrapping in the middle of words, then the likelihood is that there is some corruption. Does this happen with all fonts or only a specific one? Some fonts are erroneously coded as "decorative," which allows them to break anywhere. Or the specific font may be damaged. If it happens with all fonts, it may be the document itself that is damaged. If it happens in all documents, perhaps the printer driver is damaged and needs to be updated.

For office 2010 Professional, I could fix this issue.

Select entire doc (Ctrl+A) -> Home Ribbon --> Paragraph Section --> Click on small arrow in right down corner --> In Paragraph window --> Pagination --> Keep with next. Check or uncheck this fully This should help.

This keeps paragraphs together. It has no effect on the way words break at the end of a line.

It worked - but why is it necessary? I only have the problem on one of my two machines.

Most likely because on one machine you already have it set as a default in the normal.dotm.

Simplest fix, rename the "bad" normal.dotm and copy the "good" normal.dotm to that machine.

Find Normal.DOT / Find Normal.DOTM

The links above show a few different ways of finding normal.

In Word, press Alt+F11; the Visual Basic Editor opens. Press Ctrl+G to activate the Immediate window. In that window, type (or paste)

     Application.NormalTemplate.OpenAsDocument

and press Enter. Normal opens, but note that it may not be on top of all windows.

If you paste the following command, it will display the path of the command

debug.print application.NormalTemplate.Path

Hi

I had this problem, the way to fix is to go to paragraph setting-> click on 3rd tab(asian typography)-> un click on "allow Latin text to wrap in the middle of a word."

Before doing this select the paragraph or your whole document.

Hope this helps you.
